Watch Greg Bennett present the Fastback Line
The offset body style is another product of the sixties. Builders were looking for a racier look than the standard round or flat bottom body. This style stretches the lower right and upper left bouts of the guitar. While the technique gives the guitar a visual energy, it also makes it difficult to achieve a physical as well as a visual balance.
The Fastback series utilizes a more traditional upper left bout instead of a double cutaway. This keeps the guitar from looking too stretched out and also mirrors the lower right quadrant of the guitar. We were then able to create a deep trebble side cutaway for easy access to the higher register. The single cutaway also provides greater neck to body contact resulting in better attack and sustain.
Traditional arch top set neck construction delivers power, punch, and fat tone like no other style can. Combine this with the offset body that shifts the weight of the guitar away from the neck and you have an ideal setup. Of course, the Duncan Designed pickups fill out the performance equation.
